If I were the devil...

The following is a 1993 article by the famous radio personality, Paul Harvey:

If I were the devil...

If I were the prince of darkness I’d want to engulf the whole world in darkness, and I’d have a third of its real estate and four fifths of its population. But I wouldn’t be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree: thee.

So I’d set about however necessary, to take over the United States. I’d subvert the churches first. I’d begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve, “Do as you please.” To the young I would whisper that the Bible is a myth. I would convince them that man created God, instead of the other way around. I would confide that what’s bad is good, and what’s good is square. And the old I would teach to pray after me, “our father which art in Washington...”

And then I’d get organized: I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull and uninteresting. I’d threaten TV with dirtier movies, and visa versa. I’d peddle narcotics to whom I could. I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.

If I were the devil I’d soon have families at war with themselves; churches at war with themselves; and nations at war with themselves; until each in its turn was consumed. And with promises of higher ratings, I’d have mesmerizing media fanning the flames.

If I were the devil I would encourage schools to refine young intellect, but neglect to discipline emotions; just let those run wild, until before you knew it you’d have to have drug-sniffing dogs and metal detectors at every schoolhouse door.

Within a decade I’d have prisons overflowing; I’d have judges promoting
pornography. Soon I could evict God from the courthouse, then from the
schoolhouse, and then from the houses of Congress. And in His own churches I would substitute psychology for religion and deify science. I would lure priests and pastors into misusing boys and girls—and church money.

If I were the devil I’d make the symbol of Easter an egg, and the symbol of Christmas a bottle.

If I were the devil I’d take from those who have, and give to those who want it, until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. And what’ll you bet I couldn’t get whole states to promote gambling as the way to get rich.

I would caution against extremes, and hard work, and patriotism, and moral conduct. I would convince the young that marriage is old fashioned—that swinging is more fun. That what you see on TV is the way to be. And thus I could undress you in public, and I could lure you into bed with diseases for which there is no cure.

other words, if I were the devil I would just keep on doing what he is doing.
Paul Harvey, March 16, 1993

A very wise person once stated:
"O My children, how happy were the days when I could look down from Heaven upon you and find that America was so beautiful—a Christian nation, devout, pious, and following the road as given by the Eternal Father, through My Son and the Holy Spirit of light. And now the light has been darkened."

Another wise person once said:
"Your country, the United States, has fast gone into darkness. America the beautiful shall be cleansed by trial."

We can not predict what is store for America in the near future. However, we can say with some conviction that we will reap that which we sow. If you go back to the Old Testament you can find repeated warnings of God's wrath to fall upon those nations that fail to obey His Word!

Dear Republicans,

Do not send us any more requests for money because my wife and I will no longer listen to your babble and misinformation! The Speaker of the House is a democrat lackey and is not smart enough to lead the House and we are no longer interested in supporting a group of fools led by fools. In an earlier letter we stated that if the $100,000,000,000 was not cut from the budget then we would donate to real Republicans and not wimps! Speaker Boehner gave up without a fight on the budget then tried to make it appear that he got a great deal of $35,000,000,000 + . However, when you look at the "great deal" closer you find smoke and mirrors resulting in the same old republican results of zero!

The Republican leadership in congress must not give in to the devious tactics of the democrats when voting on upcoming measures that will increase the national debt. The vast majority of conservative voters are watching your efforts and if Republicans wimp out in the last minutes, like they have in the past, then all is lost and we will hold everyone that votes for the democrats plans responsible in the upcoming 2012 election! Those Republican leaders, meeting with the president and democrats, must be prepared to be real American heroes because the Republic is in great need of someone with courage to do what is right for America instead of what is political expedient for their careers!

Recent statements made by the Republican leadership: "I don't think the big oil companies need to have the oil depletion allowances, but for small, independent oil-and-gas producers", if they didn't have this, there'd be even less exploration in America than there is today and "We're in a time when the federal government's short on revenues. We need to control spending, but we need to have revenues to keep the government moving. And they" (the big oil companies) "ought to be paying their fair share."

That is classic liberal logic if I've ever heard it and I should know, since I was once a true believer in the liberal logic until I had an epiphany. Strange as it seems but I have just had another epiphany, and it is that most of the republican leadership are ill prepared to lead our great country and stop the advance toward the abyss.

We will pray daily that real Republicans step forward to lead us, we know that there are many new Tea Party Republicans that were voted in during the last election that fill the bill. We will only donate to those candidates that convince us that they are willing to fight the good fight against the progressive liberals who want to defeat this great nation! Based upon the timid results of recent events the Republicans have given the impression that they are terrified of the liberal machine and its useful idiots the main street lying media.

God help us,
